A career shift, but still one with great purpose
Last week, members from Dog Squad gathered to farewell Police Dog (PD) Trainee, Nala, who has started a new career as a Police Assistance Dog (PAD).
Nala was born in September 2023 and at just 8 weeks of age, commenced her intensive PD training regime. Due to a minor medical condition, Nala was unable to graduate.
Though given her loving temperament and social nature, it only made sense to donate Nala to Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation’s Assistance Dog Program – a program which connects highly trained assistance dogs with emergency responders that require emotional support for a range of conditions, particularly Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
It was through this program that Nala found her forever family in retired Detective Sergeant Peter Bellion.
It’s said it was love at first sight.
We want to wish all the best to Peter and his family, and of course, to Nala as she supports Peter during retirement.
